BDR members released on bail in the Explosives Control Act case related to the Pillkhana massacre are being released from Kashimpur Jail in Gazipur today (January 23). 20 of them have already been released. Relatives are gathering at the prison gate on the news of their release. They are making sweet faces and welcoming them with flowers.

Bail letters of 178 accused in the BDR explosives case were sent to the Dhaka Central Jail and Kashimpur Jail in Keraniganj yesterday (January 22). After verifying those bail letters, the prisoners are being released as there are no arrest warrants in any other cases.

Last Sunday (January 20), more than two hundred accused who were acquitted in the Explosives Act case filed in the BDR mutiny case and against whom no appeal was filed, were granted bail. Judge Md. of Dhaka Special Tribunal-1 inside the Keraniganj Central Jail. Ibrahim Mia’s temporary court granted them bail.

On February 25 and 26, 2009, 74 people, including 57 army officers, were killed in a mutiny at the Border Guard Headquarters in Peelkhana, Dhaka. Two cases were filed in the incident under the Murder and Explosives Control Act. After being acquitted or serving their sentences in the murder case, 468 people were released on bail due to the explosives case.

The trial of 850 people in the murder case ended on November 5, 2013. In addition to the death sentence for 152 people in this case, 160 people were sentenced to life imprisonment and 256 people were sentenced to various terms of imprisonment. 278 people were acquitted in this case.
