The High Court has postponed the hearing of a petition seeking to ban the broadcast of all Indian TV channels within Bangladesh. It has been announced that the hearing will take place in early January.
On Sunday (December 15), the High Court bench of Justice Fatema Najib and Justice Shikdar Mahmudur Razi issued this order.
At that time, the court stated, “We will hear this petition in the first week of January after the vacation period. We will also hear the statement from the Attorney General then.”
Earlier, on December 2, a petition was filed in the High Court seeking a ban on the broadcast of all Indian TV channels in Bangladesh. Supreme Court lawyer Syeda Shahin Ara Laily filed the petition.
The petition calls for banning the broadcast of all Indian TV channels in accordance with Section 19 of the Cable Television Network Operation Act 2006. Additionally, a rule has been sought asking why an order should not be issued to stop the broadcast of Indian TV channels in Bangladesh.
The petition names the Information Secretary, Home Secretary, and Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC), among others, as respondents.
