The highest remittance in the country’s history came in December

In the recently concluded month of December, the country received the highest remittance in its history, amounting to 2.64 billion dollars or 2.639 billion dollars. In local currency (based on 120 taka per dollar), which amounts to 31,668 billion taka. Never before has such a large amount of remittance been received in a single month.
This information was revealed from the latest updated report published by the Central Bank on Wednesday (January 1).
According to the Central Bank, in the recently concluded month of December, expatriates sent 640 million dollars more remittances than the previous year. This means that an average of 85.1 million dollars in remittances came to the country every day.
Earlier, in June, an average of 84.7 million US dollars in remittances came in daily. In that month, expatriates sent 2.542 billion US dollars.
According to the Central Bank, banks received 1.99 billion dollars in remittances in the last month of 2023. And in December 2022, remittances came in at 1.7 billion dollars.
However, four and a half years ago, a single month of $2.5982 billion in remittances came in July 2020. In that month, an average of $838 million in remittances came in daily.
A review of the Central Bank’s data shows that $1,377.7 million in remittances came into the country during the July-December period of the current 2024-25 fiscal year, i.e. 6 months. During the same period in the 2024-25 fiscal year, expatriates sent $1,800 million.
According to the Central Bank’s data, in the first month of the 2024-25 fiscal year, $1,913.7 million came into the country in July, $2,224.1 million came in August, $2,404.7 million came in September, $2,400 million came in October, and $2.2 billion came in November.
In the 2023-24 fiscal year, expatriates sent remittances equivalent to $2,392 million to the country. This figure of remittances is the second highest ever. The highest record remittance in the country’s history came in the 2020-21 fiscal year, amounting to $24.77 billion.
