Chittagong City Corporation, Chittagong Development Authority and Chittagong District Administration are working together to transform Patenga beach into an international standard tourism center. We are working to make the entire beach area clean, bright and safe.
Although it will start with beautification of a part of the beach, it will be transformed into an international standard tourism center in stages. It will take one to one and a half years to redecorate this spot.
On Thursday (December 26), Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain said these things while inaugurating the beautification and ancillary works for the development of international standard tourism industry in the Patenga beach area being implemented by the Chittagong Development Authority.
He said, Bangladesh’s GDP mainly depends on three sectors. But we can bring another sector, number four, through Chittagong. That is the tourism sector. The tourism sector, which has made all the SAARC countries around us prosperous. However, we have not been able to develop this tourism sector in that way. Bangladesh’s tourism sector is dependent on Chittagong. Because if we can develop Chittagong’s tourism sector, on the one hand, the country will earn a huge amount of foreign exchange, and on the other hand, there will be massive employment at the local level. If we cannot develop Chittagong’s infrastructure, we will not be able to save Bangladesh. Chittagong has to beautify itself to activate the country’s economic wheel. In this case, the Patenga Seaport can open the door to possibilities.
Commenting on the need for development of Chittagong for the sake of economic development, the Mayor said, we have to work by thinking about Chittagong’s tourism industry. There is a special economic zone here, there are container yards here. There is a matter of increasing the capacity of your port here and there is a trade center here. Chittagong is also very well known as a business hub. Therefore, all in all, Chittagong is in a very important zone today due to geographical reasons. We have to be sincere if we want to overcome the limitations that we have due to the lack of a city government. Currently, we want to move forward unitedly for the development of Chittagong with the spirit of cooperation that exists between the City Corporation, CDA and the district administration.
The City Corporation and the district administration will be partners in the implementation of this project of the Chittagong Development Authority, which was inaugurated on Thursday. 33 shops have already been evicted as part of the beautification. In addition to installing new attractive lights, special emphasis has been given to the construction of garden blocks, new colors for seating areas, greenery and cleanliness. A one-kilometer area of the beach has already been redesigned to make this one of the city’s tourist spots more attractive and increase facilities.
Chittagong Development Authority (CDA) Chairman Engineer Md. Nurul Karim and Chittagong Deputy Commissioner Farida Khanam along with senior officials of various organizations were present at the time.
