Chittagong: Big celebrations are underway at the 500-year-old church in Patharghata in the city. The traditional Rosary Queen’s Church is decorated with colorful lights.

Three Christmas services or prayers are being held on the occasion of the big day. There was a choir performance. The installation of a cowshed in the memory of Jesus Christ, a Christmas tree with colorful paper, flowers and lines of lights are attracting the attention of the devotees. Sources said that this time the Great Christmas service was held in Bengali at the Holy Rosary Queen’s Church on Tuesday (December 24) at 9:30 pm. Christmas service in English at 12 midnight.

Christmas service will be held in Bengali at 8:30 am on Wednesday (December 25). In the afternoon, Chittagong City Corporation Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain and guests will be present at the big day ceremony at the Archbishop House. Not only the Queen of the Rosary Church, but also churches in various places in the city including St. Mary’s, AG Church, Anwara, Pahartali, Boalkhali have organized Christmas prayers. Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) and District Police have strengthened security in various churches and surrounding areas around Christmas.

Christmas trees and other luxury hotels including Radisson Blu Chittagong Bay View and The Peninsula Chittagong have been decorated with colorful decorations. Every house in Christ Village has been decorated with colorful decorations.

Sources say that the first church in Chittagong named St. John the Baptist was established on June 24, 1600 AD. It was destroyed on November 8, 1602 AD. The Queen of the Holy Rosary Church was built on the ruins of the first church in 1843 AD.
