A ship carrying rice imported from India has reached the waters of Chittagong Port.
The ship named ‘MV Tanis Dream’ carrying 24,690 tons of parboiled rice from the Indian port reached the outer anchorage of Chittagong Port around 3 pm on Wednesday.
As part of the 50,000 metric tons of rice import, 24,690 tons arrived in Chittagong in the first phase in 493,800 bags.
Earlier, a press release from the Food Ministry had announced that the Tanis Dream ship carrying rice would arrive at Chittagong Port around 5:30 am on Thursday.
The release said that the Food Department had invited an international open tender last month to purchase rice. An Indian company participated in it and got the job of supplying 50,000 tons of rice.
Gyanpriya Bidurshi Chakma, Traffic and Storage Controller of the Food Department, Chittagong, said, “The ship carrying rice from Kakinada Port, India, has reached the outer anchorage of the port. It will arrive at Jetty No. 9 of the port by Thursday morning.”
Stating that the unloading of rice will begin from that day, he said, “The second consignment of rice imported from India is expected to arrive in the first week of January.”
It has been reported from the Chittagong Port that initiatives have been taken to unload the imported rice quickly.
This consignment of rice has arrived from India for the first time during the tenure of the interim government formed after the August 5 student uprising.
