A newborn baby was rescued from the banks of the Karnaphuli River in Boalkhali Upazila of Chittagong.
On Thursday, Upazila Executive Officer Himadri Khisa reported that the newborn was found on the banks of the river in the Sreepur-Kharandwip Union of the upazila.
He said that a woman named Munni Jaldas of Kharandip Jaldas Para found the newborn while bathing in the river at noon. Someone had left the baby on the mud on the river bank soon after birth.
Munni later reported the matter to the local Union Parishad member. After receiving a call on the emergency help number, the police rescued the baby and took him to the Upazila Health Complex. The baby is currently healthy.
The baby has also been given a name. UNO Himadri Khisa said that he will be named ‘Bijay’ as he was born in the month of Vijay.
The baby has been kept under the care of Boalkhali Upazila Health Complex. He said that he will later be sent to the Chotomoni Nivas of the Department of Social Services.
